Staff CPD & RP TEAM

Our Restorative Us Plus package is a wonderful way to grow a restorative team within a school. It aims to build a shared literacy amongst staff through a Whole Staff CPD and to support an interested follow-on Restorative Us Team (from 4 to 10 staff members) in their commitment and implementation of Restorative Practice. The intention is to build internal capacity, sustainability and a distributed leadership for a school community on their restorative journey.

  • Are you looking to build or reinvigorate the knowledge, skills and motivation of using Restorative Practice within your school community?

  • Are you seeking to move beyond a 'train and hope' approach and instead invest in a long term, structured, sustainable implementation programme that supports engagement and accountability?

  • Are you looking for simple everyday strategies to enhance best teaching practice and reduce stress levels amongst staff?

If you answered 'Yes' to the above, then our Restorative Us Programme is for you. The pre-recorded an interactive Staff CPD session offers opportunities to contextualise the 6 Restorative Principals within your school and then assemble, resource and measure the impact of an RP team on it's restorative journey. Scroll on down for more information.

How Does the Restorative Us Plus Programme Work?

Mentor It

All participants are offered 3 x scheduled online Restorative Café Team meetings with Connect RP facilitators to check-in on progress, share successes, reflect on challenges and to engage in the grappling necessary to navigate the restorative paradigm shift.

There will also be opportunities throughout the year for the school team leaders to connect & learn with one another in Michelle's Restorative Us Team Leader Café.

Resource It

As part of this programme, each member of the team will be provided with online access to Restorative Me which offers: 8 months access to 60 videos (14 lessons, 14 connect & reflect exercises, 14 connect quests along with various quizzes and practical resources) to act as the guiding compass to support  understanding, reflection and guided practice, all facilitated at a self-directed pace!

Each member will also participate in a regular BEE RP Hive in your school which offers a co-learning experience where the team can promote engagement, accountability and peer supports, contextualising individual experiences and roles.

Measure It

Using surveys to gauge the effectiveness of the programme in our participating schools, the outcomes typically look like this:

(1) The participating group will have moved beyond the 'train and hope' approach and instead have a structured programme to support restorative practice in your school community.

(2) Participants should be feeling less stressed in the classroom environment and reporting that the overall teaching experience and engagement in the classroom has improved.

(3) Participants will have a shared understanding and literacy around Restorative Practice to further support its implementation among the whole school community.

Bringing together a committed team to grow RP within their environment.

The Restorative Us Plus offers a whole staff CPD session outlining the 6 Principles of RP in Education and the assembly of a committed team and an identified team leader with the interest and capacity to grow RP.

The ongoing input and support offered through this package aims to replace training days and move beyond a ‘train and hope’ model and instead offer a framework for implementation and growth, creating a strong foundation for sustainability and distributed leadership. Restorative Us Plus is facilitated at a guided but school-directed pace that offers individual, peer and community learning opportunities.

Whole Staff CPD Session - Shared Literacy

The whole staff CPD offers involves staff ideally working in small groups to grow a shared understanding and literacy around Restorative Practice and engage with the interactive opportunities to engage in a relational experience. It also offers follow-on resources available on the UBUNTU Learning Platform for staff to live the 6 principles of RP in Education within their classrooms. This is an ideal process to create an informed opportunity to assemble a Restorative Us team.

Restorative Us Pillar 1 - Individual Learning

Each member of the team (from 4 up to 10) gains 12-month access a self-paced certified Restorative Me programme. This is a consistent reservoir for each individuals to draw from, acting as a compass to support understanding, reflection and guidance through the use of Connect Video Lessons, guided Connect & Reflect invitations and scaffolded Connect Quests to support implementation.

Restorative Us Pillar 2 - Co-Learning

A Restorative Us Team induction followed by a commitment to a regular Bee RP Hive (up to 14 gatherings) offers a co-learning experience where the team can promote engagement, accountability and peer supports, contextualising individual experiences and roles. This offers a framework to transform educational practice and honour the community and wellbeing of the team.

Restorative Us Pillar 3 - Mentoring

Offering 3 x scheduled online Restorative Café Team Meetings with Connect RP Facilitators to check-in on progress, share successes, reflect on challenges and to engage in the grappling necessary to navigate the restorative paradigm shift.

There will also be opportunities for team leaders from each school to connect and learn with one another in Michelle's Restorative Us Team Leader Café.

“The Restorative Practice initiatives that we have undertaken as a post-primary staff over the last number of years have helped forge and safeguard endless positive relationships throughout our school community. Connect RP has essentially given us a language and a structure to protect our value systems and to work authentically within a truly sustainable framework such as the Restorative Us Plus Package.

Every time Michelle from Connect RP engages with our staff or students it lifts their spirits immeasurably. It is hard to put a value on how important this is to the morale and wellbeing of all in our workplace. As school leaders, it is what we strive to achieve everyday ourselves.

Most significantly, the Connect RP programmes have inspired our own teachers and students to become RP champions; and as a consequence the philosophy has become embedded within our school culture. This has ultimately led to the creation of the kind of learning environment in which both our educators and our young students can flourish on a daily basis.

It is impossible to overstate how positive and nourishing an experience our RP journey has been for us to date. The solid foundations that this model provides for enjoyable and successful teaching and learning is what every new or established school craves.  As a programme for continuous professional- and indeed, personal- development, I cannot recommend it highly enough.”

"We engaged with Restorative Us Plus package in our school last year. Working with Michelle Stowe has been a wholly positive and uplifting experience. Her enthusiasm for restorative practice is contagious. The Restorative Me course that everyone on team has access to has been energising and transformative. It is encouraging us all to consider how we interact with others, in both our professional and personal lives. Michelle and her team are always professional, efficient, and helpful. We have just begun our restorative journey as a school and have now progressed on to the support of a whole school Connect RP Site Licence as we hope to continue being a school committed to the use of Restorative Practice."

Common Questions

  • Can the webinar and the Restorative Us be done independently of one another?

Yes. They can exist independently if this would best meet the needs of the school but were designed to complement one another.

  • What follow-on resources do schools have access to following the webinar?

Staff have access to a generic school account that offers two sets of resources – a student focussed Connection before Curriculum and a Living the 6 Principles of RP in Education. Both of these offer examples, templates, recommended resources and ideas explored within the webinar that may support the relational plan of any classroom and beyond.

  • Who should be on a Restorative Us Team?

A team can be from 4-10 people. It is recommended that the team is made up of these interested or curious about developing their own practice and potentially promoting it within the school through modelling. Schools can use an existing structure such as a care or wellbeing team. Sometimes schools use an existing leadership team which can work well as there is often time to come together knitted into the timetable. But schools need to also remember that the emphasis here is on our own practice at this stage the leadership is through modelling. It can be helpful to have people from different range of experience and roles on a team, people who believe in and are willing to commit to developing their relational practice.

  • Who may be best placed to lead the team?

Someone with the interest and time to lead is essential. I recommend that this is not a member of the senior leadership but someone who has more flexibility and time to connect with me and consistently prioritise the promotion and leadership of this team. Someone who has or is interested in actively cultivating  positive and warm relationships with staff is also key.

  • What is the Bee RP Hive – when / where / how often?

This is a space to come together, reflect and live the practices in community. It is an ideal way to promote accountability, especially as school life can be so busy. This happens at a school/team directed pace. It could be scheduled in a timetable if possible, at lunch time or after school – or indeed a mixture of all three. There are up to 14 30-40 min gathering outlined that the team leader can use to facilitate the sessions. They can take place face to face or online – the important thing is that people enjoy this space together – a cuppa and a biscuit would be two great additions to any gathering.
